like she said, everything's fine

The Five One Orchestra wrote a piece to accompany my exhibition, Passages, at The Sculpture Center in Cleveland. It was an incredibly unique opportunity and was especially cool to watch them perform it live May 18. Here's a link to download the piece. http://fiveonemusic.org/2012/05/18/everythings-fine-download/

3 events in 3 weeks, part 2

As part of my Artist Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, I proposed to rent a house and turn the entire space into an installation about how death and loss affects the home. The City of Minneapolis has rented me a home that has been foreclosed and condemned. It sits empty and boarded, with no utilities. Upon the completion of my work in the house, it will be demolished. I will be photographing, installing, sitting, and making work in the house in the coming weeks. I have invited other artists to join me. Please take part in the end of this house’s life and join us at the opening and closing while we make work. Opening and closing: Saturday, May 5, 12-4pm, and Saturday, May 26, 12-4pm. Please see the tumblr below for more information. thisisdisappearing.tumblr.com

3 events in 3 weeks, part 1

When it rains it pours. I feel fortunate to have these amazing opportunities come my way. It makes for busy times, but I prefer it that way. Ok. Part 1:
The Sculpture Center presents Lauren Herzak-Bauman: Passages At the Euclid Avenue Gallery April 27 – May 26, 2012 Opening and artist talk: Friday April 27, 5:30-8pm Friday, May 18 at 8:30 PM A 30 minute live performance by FiveOne Experimental Orchestra, like she said, everything's fine. In the Euclid Avenue Gallery accompanying the exhibition Lauren Herzak-Bauman: Passages. Free Lauren Herzak-Bauman uses the medium or clay to express feelings of mourning and loss thereby transforming a gallery into a somber and reflective space. Drawing from the engrained culture of her childhood Russian Orthodox background, in which repetitive objects are used to mourn lost loved ones, the artist will install hundreds of porcelain memorial plaques emblazoned with fading images to recreate the processional aspects and paying of respect that are associated with loss. For her porcelain mimics the human condition in 'its strength and fragility, pure whiteness, and translucency' and is a conduit for remembrance. *more images to be posted on my website soon.*
